They burned people yes, and Pope John Paul apologized, after all the families of the burned are long dead. They branded people heretics and burned a cross on their chest, then they apologize again, 100s of years after the only way to learn about it is in history books. How many hundreds of years will it be before some Pope says “I’m sorry for all the oppression of women and hiding/protecting those priests that molested alter boys.” And how many years before they admit that something else is wrong, long after no-one gives a damn? If they really want to prove they’re a good group with good intentions, they should be willing to change when it matters and not just wait until they are no longer too prideful to admit they’re wrong. I’ve heard people say that if saying a Hail Mary was wrong they would have caught it all the way back when they started the prayer, right. Well how long until they apologize for that? Another 200 years, maybe 300. Just because you’ve been doing the same thing for so long doesn’t mean it’s right, Americans worked with asbestos for almost 100 years before finding out that it can easily give you cancer and other fatal diseases.
Thank you Jane. And how long until they apologize to the gay community?
Thank you for the correction, Jolly Green Midget. You have strenghtened my point.
Why does the Catholic church apologize when it’s too late?
Should Christine Todd Whitman be put in jail?
Christine Todd Whitman, former head of the EPA, announced shortly after 9/11 that the air in NYC was safe to breath. Consequently, 50,000 rescue workers failed to use resperators and now suffer from serious medical issues because of airborne asbestos and other toxins. Other NYC residence also suffer because of EPA statements. Should she be put in jail because she knowingly lied?
CRAYOLA PLAY SAND AND SAFE SANDS FOR KIDS?
I have been looking into finding safe sands for play and have found that most play sand for the sandbox can certainly come with better quality. Silica is quartz, but the most important concern is free silica dust or crystalline silica and asbestos. Play sand with dust most likely have one or both of these, and they are a hazard to a child’s developing lungs. These sharp glass-like particles become trapped in the lung tissue causing scar tissue, slow progressing lung disease and cancer. Now workers who work on a regular basis with these elements are more likely to develop this problem, but that doesn’t mean that it is okay for our children to play with such dangerous sand particles. I have found some sands which may be safe including Sandtastik and Safe Sand. These however may have asbestos even though they are silica free, and are expensive. The MSDS for these state that the ingredient for the sand is used to make fiberglass and other such products, and that the main ingredient is feldspharic inorganic minerals. Many white sands contain asbestos and/or crystalline silica dust unless stated otherwise…very rare for them to state free of both dangers.
Well, the best I have found so far is Crayola colored play sand. I called the company n2m group who makes the sand, and have found that the quartz particles are rounded by tumbling for 45 minutes, is 100% asbestos free and free of crystalline silica dust particles, the dye is acrylic based and safe, the product does not stain though it may appear so as the tiny particles wedge into areas, is washed and goes through a dust collecting process, does not require that warning label for lung disease, and is certified with high standards and well tested. Completely non-toxic AND irritant free. There was one case where two children broke out in a rash…they ended up being allergic to sand in general. It had nothing to do with the colors or quality, and was an isolated case. For anyone looking for this good quality sand, it is only currently sold at Wal-mart and soon Toys R Us. So far this is the only sand I will use.
Most other sands I have found are Quikrete, Play Sand from Fairmount Minerals, and Beach Sand brand from Busy Beaver. I have been unsatisfied with their quality. Most are not tumbled to round the edges, or are only tumbled for 12 hrs….not near the 45 minutes used to prepare Crayola sand, which makes Crayola sand much more reassuring.
My question is, does anyone else have knowledge of equal quality sands, and what is your experience with Crayola sand?
My sandbox has a lid and I have not had any problems with cats, etc. Anyway, my question is specific and not about potential pest/sanitary problems. I have done my research. I appreciate answers specific to my question. Thank you
The Toys R Us sand is likely the Play Sand brand from Fairmount minerals. I found that it did contain a hazard based on the msds sheet. Also Crayola is the only sand so far that has significantly rounded edges. A good thing. Some people might not like the colors getting into the yard though…it is more noticeable. I’m more concerned about safety though
Cigarette FSC Law: does it cover cigars?
I’m just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the FSC (fire safe cigarette) laws in place covers cigars in any way, I’m talking about the smaller cigarette type cigars that look the same except say cigars or cigarellos. I’m a smoker but I refuse to smoke these new FSC because they taste bad and I guarantee years down the road people have directly linked illnesses to the chemicals they use which is a variant of asbestos and moth balls compounds. The only tobacco I can get that is non FSC is roll your own or cigars and even the small ones are not FSC. I was informed at a tobacco store I will not name sells a cheaper roll your own tobacco that claims to be pipe tobacco so is not taxed as much which leads me to wonder if generic cigarette manufacturers could simply call their actual cigarettes cigars and avoid taxation as well as FSC laws.
Witchy I can already tell you now that’s the best answer possible and covered everything I wanted to know, but I’ll leave open in case anyone wants to add their two cents about this. Important topic to many
What information can you give me about Molly Stark Sanatorium?
I know that it’s a sanatorium in Louisville, Ohio. It was a TB hospital, then changed into a mental hospital for prisoners. I’ve seen it up close, but haven’t been in it due to the fire damage and the asbestos still in the building. It was closed in the 1950’s I was told. I hear it’s haunted and I know it’s all creepy, but I want to know more.
1.) Does anyone have pictures of the inside?
2.) Does anyone know how many people died there?
3.) Has anyone seen any ghost or have evidence of paranormal activity?
4.) Can anyone give me any information I don’t have yet?
I checked wiki (i dont trust wiki either) and i didn’t give me anything and I can’t find any information about the old Molly Stark, just the new one.
How would you handle this?
My mom died 2 weeks ago. My dad died 11 months ago. He had Alzheimers for at least 4 years before he died. My brother handled his POA and took at least 80K from him for stupid things like having people sit with him while he was in the hospital having his foot amputated. My sister was my mom’s POA and I’m pretty sure she’s taken a good chunk from the estate. Now comes the will and she gets 40 percent, thief bro and I get 20 percent each and other sis’s kids get 10 percent each. Do I demand an accounting from each or let her steal some more (Asbestos money and wrongful death money could come in later)? I know I’ll never speak to bro again, don’t know about sis (She can be a bully verbally).

Staff Infection in Lungs?
After my grandfather past away many years ago I began coughing up a whitish, yellowish mucous. This has been going on for a year or two. I had been taking care of him for over ten years. My grandfather had lung cancer & worked in chemical plants with asbestos. Since going to a doctor about 4 months ago, I was diagnosed with a staff infection. The doctor prescribed me with antibiotics. It went away & now it’s back. I am still spitting or coughing up this flem. It gets stuck in my throat & drives me crazy. What can I do, is this dangerous?
I have a question concerning the environment?
Do people think that hazardous chemicals simply go away? Are that not aware that some toxic chemicals can have a shelf life that can last hundreds, or even thousands of years?
I’m no tree hugger, but I do not believe you can keep polluting our rivers, lakes, and streams without some type of catastrophic event happening in the future. What if one day we must live off the land like they did in the 1800’s?
Why do you suppose cancer and heart disease is more common now than it was in the beginning of the 20th century? More people? NO! The percentage is still higher. More smokers? NO! People actually smoke less today. Cancer is not caused by simply smoking alone. There is a wide range of causes.
Why is it that a perfectly healthy person can get lung cancer even though they never have been exposed to asbestos, and most importantly, THEY NEVER SMOKED!
Does the food I eat have the same amount of nutrients and pollutants that it had 50 years ago? Something tells me probably not!
Somehow our government needs to find a way to protect the environment without harming prosperity. Hydrogen powered cars are a start, but thats only a small fraction of the problem.
volcanos are out of our control. And why compound the problem? Should we simply give up because a volcano erupts? That would only make it worse.
Seeing is believing. I have seen it with my own eyes. I live in a state in which every stream and lake is polluted. There was a time when people were not afraid to eat the fish. NOT ANYMORE!
I have also seen a company get fined for dumping toxic wastes into a nearby river. luckily, they got caught! I wonder how many don’t.
Great point Jeff, but wouldn’t more pollution mean less oxygen? It doesn’t have to be cigarette smoke!
It is literally impossible for the environment to be cleaner now than it was 40 or 50 years ago.
What happens if you don’t clean your room? Stuff piles up and it looks worse and worse everyday right? These chemicals don’t simply rot. They stick around for a very long time!
How come the brakes on my Hyundai are so noisy?
And do you believe this explanation from the mechanic at my local Hyundai dealership. He told me that Hyundai uses asbestos linings in their brakes. When Hyundai ships vehicles to the US, they remove the asbestos brake linings because of US regulations. In many cases, as in the case with my Hyundai Accent, the replacement brake linings do not work as well as the OEM asbestos linings.
My brakes are very noisy, and worst in wet weather and when the car is cold in the morning. Then when the brakes wear down, the noise is less noticeable. But then the brakes are worn and when I replace the brake pads the brakes are noisy again.
