I have always wondered how builders protect themselves against asbestos exposure, because when my friend had her 1940s house renovated they hacked off the old coating on the 1940s exterior wall and then pebble-dashed the wall, that was in mid 1999 do they check if it contains asbestos first or do they just hack it off without checking, surely they are putting their lives at risk with all their jobs if the don’t check first.

I live on an Army base and we have huge wind storms every once in a while. Last month a wind storm destroyed a building that is adjacent to the housing area. They cordoned it off but the rubble is just strewn about all over the field next to where the building stood. It has still not been cleaned up. There are warning signs saying that the area is contaminated with asbestos. I know that asbestos is only harmful if inhaled or ingested, but last night we had another huge wind storm. I doubt a little police tape kept the wind from picking up the asbestos and flinging it all over the base. I am 7 months pregnant and my husband’s family wants to come get me so I can keep away from the asbestos but my husband is here and my doctors are here and all my stuff is here and I don’t even know anyone back home with a spare room. What would you do? Anyone know anything about asbestos that could help me make a decision?
How do I encapsulate a flaky asbestos popcorn ceiling?

A contractor doing work on my home recently damaged a section of my popcorn ceiling. Now flakes of this popcorn stuff are hanging from the ceiling, and could possible come off in time. I don’t plan to repair the ceiling, and I don’t want to disturb the stuff. Is there an adhesive or something that I could spray on the ceiling to keep the stuff from flaking off further?

A tornado ripped through my neighborhoos augst 19th. I called to report a claim. The main thing was a tree toppled lines that pulled the power mast from my house.
I spoke to the adjuster a day later, then he was at my house another day later, but didnt bother to knock on my door, so I didnt eget to meet him.
I had to make multiple phone calls a week later to see if he came or not. Then another 3 weeks and more multiple phone calls, and he said he did have a ‘report’, but didnt email it to me for a week.
He suggested a contractor estimate since the siding was damaged. I have old asbestos siding in a weird wood grain/vertical stripe pattern I had multiple contractors out who said this pattern is nowhere to be found. Then didnt heaar from them again for a month and the contractor i chose couldnt get ahold of anyone. Turns out my adjustor was out of town. I was very upset, they assigned a new adjustor, and one day when I was coming home from work, she and my contracotr were at my house (without bothering to tell me) to get a sample of the siding she could mail in for analysis and a match up.
Now they are saying there is a match (“reasonable), but the pattern is totally dissferent. They say all they have to do is provide a reasonable match. I live in MN, a matching state.
Now they just emailed me this estimate, to repair the back siding with the match, and about 150.00 foreach other side of my house to paint. (who is going to do it for that??) Then they have the total amount, LESS DEPRECIATION (can they do this?) less the deductable, and said a check for 2,000 is on its way. I cant get it repaired for that, and I dont agree it matches!!! I dont want my back different rom the rest of the house!
Plus they skimped on the fence repair cost, didnt include the gate, and didnt include my compost bin, ect that was also damaged. They are impossible to get ahold of and argumentative. My insurance agent isnt helpful much either. He never bothered to call me back after I reported this. HELP!!

they knocked the old garage down with a digger broke it all up including the suspect roof sheets and used it to infill alongside my boundry and a vast area of my neighbours Garden is this ILLEGAL and who WILL ENFORCE THE LAW

My neighbours are in cahoots with their builders the fact that we have had harrasment if we go near the boundary

I know that if the tiles crack, they could contain asbestos. The first company I asked to come in and replace my carpet wouldn’t do it because they said it’s an asbestos hazard. But, I don’t want to pay high prices for a hazardous waste company to come in and remove them. They don’t appear to be cracked…What are my options? Has anyone had to do this before? Can’t they just throw the carpet over the top? Is it expensive to have all of the tiles removed?

he told me that he might have inhaled some asbestos fibers yesterday, and now 2day he said he has a bad cough! obviously that isnt a good thing!
if the fibers stay in ur lungs 4 a long time they can cause a certain kind of lung cancer….i am very worried about him because he is my guy version of BFF

19yo I worked at a eatery where the basement ceiling had warning asbestos labels, but I spent about 5 hours a week in the basement for about 4 years, do you think i’ll get cancer from that ?
Can the asbestos in the hessian part of carpet come through without disturbing it?

Our house is an old house and we have recently discovered asbestos in several places around our home. And we got rid of most of it and soon discovered that our carpet has recycled hessian that was used to transport asbestos. Can that asbestos come through the hessian? Am i safe?
