Waiters rights during restaurant remodel?

09 Jun

It has been made known to me that several friends working in a restaurant (remaining unnamed) currently undergoing a remodel may be being exposed to asbestos and drywall dust, as well as other things including mouse droppings. The restaurant is remaining open during the remodel period. The construction areas are not draped. The restaurant owner is making the servers show up hours before the restaurant opens everyday to clean up the construction mess from the evening prior. These people are only being paid during this period a server’s wage which is well below minimum wage. Do my friends have rights in this situation? The owner has shown a previous disposition of ignoring laws to save money. What should my friends do, any advice? The restaurant is located in Colorado.

can anyone provide legal help with a possible asbestos problem at work?

08 Jun

I work at a steel service company with old buildings that have been recently added on to. the employee that relieves me started working on cleaning up the area when he arrived, when asked what he was doing, he said he was told not to tell anyone. he had a wet rag strapped to his face and was wetting down some insulation looking dust, and scooping it into a plastic bag and threw it away. besides a possible epa/osha violation, is there any chance the employees that have been working in the building can get compensated for the risk they have unknowingly been exposed to for over a year?
The original building was built NEW for them about 30 years ago.
new information to take into consideration. osha came by and took samples, and I contacted the EPA too. The employee cleaning the mess is certified for hazardous materials, but he improperly disposed of it and the owner of the company DID know about it. I have 2 small children and have been in contact with them in my work clothes, exposing them to the same conditions. my employer has never given out resperators or protective clothing at all. I think myself and other employees should all be rutinely tested for asbestos exposure at the cost of the company and compensated for the risk we were unaware of that the owner of the company WAS aware of. cancer and mesothelioma are VERY BAD THINGS.

Is he trying to prove Global Warming w/ these questions?

08 Jun

Okay, so I was having a mostly friendly conversation with a friend about Obama when it went to Global Warming…go figure lol. I for one don’t believe in it. He came back with questions I think is supposed to prove his point? There below as follows:

I am glad you are concerned about the environment.

I have six questions I’d love to get your thoughts on:

1.) Do you think that second-hand smoke can cause lung cancer or other health problems for non-smokers who inhale the fumes? Do you believe the research from the Tobacco Institute is unbiased, and therefore reliable regarding second-hand smoke?… See More

2.) Do you think that the Clean Air Act, which has helped reduce air pollution significantly in major cities, was a good thing? Or do you think that air pollution is not really a health problem, but rather, an aesthetic/appearance problem primarily?

3.) Do you think that the banned pesticide DDT was unfairly banned, and should be used to improve the health of people worldwide?

4.) Do you think that if asbestos was not banned in the construction of the World Trade Center…many lives would’ve been saved because it would have improved the structural integrity of the twin towers?

5.) Would you celebrate the death of a well-known and highly regarded scientist?

6.) Would you be critical of companies/corporations that have adopted environmentally-friendly practices? For example, Microsoft has abandoned the use of PVC in its packing materials. Good or bad?

BONUS QUESTION: Should we believe everything that lobbyists who are bankrolled by corporate America tell us?

Just curious what you think of the above.

Is this trying to prove his point????

Is the pink material found in attics a cause of lung cancer? I have heard that the material may have similar health risks to asbestos. Can anyone please inform me more about the health risks, if any, found in the pink insulation? Thank you

What can I do to make sure this strange white powder coating everything on my job isn’t a health hazard?

07 Jun

My job relocated from a clean modern building with great maintenance and security, to a dirty rodent infested building that’s at least 40 years old because it was more cost effective.

The water fountains are turned off because of the lead pipes. There are mouse dropping in my cubicle everyday and the whole office is coated in a strange white powder. The building has repeatedly been sited by the health department but nothing has been done.

OSHA has tested the powder and says its not Legionaries Disease, which one of our other buildings did have, and its not asbestos, even though a contractor left the building and refused to complete repairs on our AC claiming the building had asbestos. They says it has a high mold content but that’s not something they deal with.

A lot of people in the building have a persistent cough and my desk is right under a vent so I not only have a cough but have horrible headaches as well.

I currently have to wipe my desk off with bleach wipes everyday just to keep the dust off my clothes. The dust is so thick when I come to work on Mondays that you can write in it. Plus its not like regular dust as its grainy. I really think this stuff is dangerous but I can’t afford to quit and look for a new job.

What can I do to find out what this stuff is? And how can I protect myself?

How many know?

07 Jun

1. That it wasn’t just 4,500 people that died on 911. People are still dying. Dogs have died from the asbestos. People that haven’t died have cancer. The death rate from 911 continues to go up.
2. That Silverstein got 7 billion for The Towers. People are still dying. 3. Just 3 months before the “terroists” attacks Silverstein took out Terrost Insurance on The Towers.
4. There was no insurance investigation pertaining to Silverstein. If We took out insurance on anything and 3 months later someone died you bet your bottom dollar there’d be an investigation to make sure everything was legit.
5. That Silverstein was NOT the owner of the buildings, yet he got the insurance. Shouldn’t the Owners of the building got it?
6. That there are antimissle weapons that protect the White House as well as the Pentagon. That anything that would threaten those buildings would have been shot out of the sky.
6. That just because someone actus like that are Christian doesn’t mean they are.
7. Iraq wasn’t part of 911.
8. There was never any “Weapons of Mass Destruction” found. If there were, they would have peraded them on CNN, MSNBC, and other news channels.
9. That Halliburton get no big deals behind closed doors.
10. Rumsfed is the CEO of Halliburton.
11. There is no actual law called “Excutive Privledge”. And if there is, Why isn’t there one for Supervisor Privledge, or Manager Privledge or Soldier Privledge, or even Citizen Privledge?
12. That the “Terrorists” took over with nothing more than box cutters, yet our Government and FBI have a plethera of weapons at their disposal.

After taking carpet out we found old tiles (probably with Asbestos)Some broke/are cracked. How can we be safe?

07 Jun

We had a flooding problem and had to pull a very old carpet out. Underneath we found 9×9 tiles, probably containing asbestos.A few of the tiles broke in the process and also some tiles are cracked probably from tacking the carpet down.Currently we use the room for storage and my hudbands clothes, but eventually we like to use it for living again. What is the safest and most inexpensive way to deal with that floor. We will not take the tiles out.How big is the danger of Asbestos exposure right now?

Should I be concerned with a very brief exposure to an asbestos work site?

07 Jun

Partially due to the neglegence of my employer, I accidentally walked into a building that was taped off for asbestos removal for approximately 1- 2 minutes. Should I have reason for concern or am I overreacting?
